An ocean full of microplastics? Countdown to the 2022 ceremony on Nov. 29 at 15.00 PM (CET). It’s a virtual event – we invite you to attend!
The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, has a strong focus on research in sustainability sciences. That has paid off well with the Volvo Environment Prize Jury, which has rewarded four UBC scientists so far, giving the university a top position together with Stanford University. Fisheries economist Professor Rashid Sumaila, a 2017 Volvo Environment Prize laureate, was earlier this year tapped by the UBC, naming him a University Killam Professor. That is the highest honor UBC can confer on a faculty member, recognizing extraordinary teachers and researchers who are leaders in their fields and who have received international recognition.
Among many other ideas for healthy oceans, Rashid Sumaila has championed the protection of the High Seas for sustainable fishing stocks.
