An independent foundation awards the Volvo Environment Prize for outstanding scientific discoveries or innovations broadly within the environmental sphere.
Laureates represent a wide span of knowledge and areas of importance. Previous laureates include economists, biologists, urban development experts, resource and hazard specialists, poverty adversaries and others exploring the paths to a sustainable world. More than 40 scientists have received the award since 1990. Two of the laureates subsequently won Nobel Prizes.
