Sustainability is rising higher and higher on the agenda around the world, and penetrates deeper into business, politics and science than perhaps ever before. The last few years many of the leading universities have been investing more into environmental and sustainability research. This of course affects the work of the scientific committee and jury for the Volvo Environment Prize, which has to decide on many qualified nominations. The most important criterion for being nominated as a prize winner is outstanding scientific achievements. But it is also important that the winner’s research has an influence on policies and contributes to solving sustainability challenges.

The nomination period for the 2022 prize has ended and a review will now be carried out by the Scientific Committee. Later this year, they will submit their recommendations to the Prize Jury, which will make a choice. The final decision is confirmed by the Board of Volvo Environment Prize and will be announced in the autumn of 2022.
