The Volvo Environment Prize event 2023 starts soon.
Ecologist Terry Chapin, the 2019 laureate, received his award at a ceremony and gala dinner in Stockholm, Nov 7. Several hundred specially invited guests from academia, government and the business community participated.
The award was presented to Terry Chapin by Ms Matilda Ernkrans, Minister of Higher Education and Research, Sweden and Mr Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO, Volvo Group.
A specially made film about the research of Terry Chapin “Steward of the Earth” was shown.
The 30th anniversary of the award was celebrated with a musical journey around the world to honor the laureate from Alaska and also previous laureates from Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and North and South America. Several laureates participated in the award ceremony by video link, talking about recent developments in scientific research on sustainability. One of them was Paul Ehrlich who received the award in 1993. Among other laureates participating was Carlos Nobre from Brazil, discussing fires in the Amazon and Xuemei Bai from Australia, talking about sustainable cities.
