The 1992 Laureates were Dr. Norman Myers and Professor Peter H. Raven for their efforts to promote international awareness of the crucial importance of biodiversity to the earth’s environment. A British zoologist, Dr. Myers was one of the first to understand and warn of the global threat posed by the destruction of the tropical rain forests. Professor Raven is an American botanist and specialist in the evolution of plant species.
