The 22th
Volvo Environment Prize was awarded to Professor Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Potsdam and External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute, USA. He is a world-leading researcher within the complex research field of sustainability science dealing with factors that impact at the global environment.

The prize week for 2011 year's Laureate began with a seminar at Chalmers University of Technology November 2 in Göteborg, with the title "Can Science Save the World?". The seminar included a lecture from Professor Schellnhuber and a questions and answer session with the audience and the Laureate of the Volvo Environment Prize 2011.

Prize Seminar at Nybrokajen 11, November 3
November 3rd, the Volvo Environment Prize Seminar and Award Ceremony took place in Stockholm. The Prize Seminar was enacted at Nybrokajen 11, with the title "From Words to Action - How Could the Societal Actors Cooperate to Establish a Sustainable Society?

The Seminar was moderated by Nedjma Chaouche and included speeches from Mr. Olof Persson, President AB Volvo and CEO Volvo Group and Professor Carl Folke, Director Beijer Institute, Science Director Stockholm Resilience Centre and member of the Volvo Environment Prize Scientific Committee, film shows about the Volvo Environment Prize and this year's Laureate, panel discussion with Professor Schellnhuber, Mr. Olof Persson, Professor Carl Folke, Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director European Environment Agency and member of the Volvo Environment Prize Jury, Professor Johan Rockström, Executive Director Stockholm Environment Institute and Executive Director Stockholm Resilience Centre and Professor Will Steffen, Executive Director ANU Climate Change Institute, The Australian National University and member of the Volvo Environment Prize Jury. The Prize Seminar ended with questions and answer session with the audience and the participants in the panel.
