Nomination guidelines

To be considered, nominations must be submitted before November 15, 2009


  • The span of disciplines and activities for which nominations can be made is very wide. The work of nominees should be based on scientific grounds.
  • Nominations must clearly describe and explain the nominee's main achievements and their importance.
  • Nominations should be submitted in English using the official form available on the Internet at www.environment-prize.com.
  • Please, also attach the requested documents; 1) Description of achievements 2) Curriculum Vitae and list of publications and 3) Letter of reference.
  • A nomination remains valid for three years. Please note that self-nominations are not accepted.
Evaluation process
A Scientific Committee reviews the nominations and presents a report to an international Prize Jury. The Jury recommends one or several winners to the Board of the Volvo Environment Prize Foundation, which then makes the formal decision.

The ceremony
The Prize ceremony takes place in Stockholm in November 2010.

Previous winners

Since 1990 the Prize has been awarded to 36 individuals, of whom three subsequently received the Nobel prize. The Laureates represent a wide span of knowledge and areas of importance for the environment. To previous winners
